I’ve been going on and on for the past 6 months about getting a waterproof phone. I knew the tech was there. Liquipel showed it to us in January at CES 2012. They sprayed water-repellent coating at the molecular level and popped the phone into water.

It was brilliant. It was waterproof. It was “only available in the USA”.

So I started waiting for the technology to get into phones. The first rumour started in February. They said the Galaxy S3 would have the tech built in. “Great!”, I said.

I waited 5 months and.. it wasn’t true.

In all that time, I scoured the net for more info on it. In May, I got a small piece of info. 2 tiny websites had said that liquipel had signed deals in Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and China. No other websites had anything on it. The only thing was that it said the source was a Liquipel press release, so it seemed to have some credibility.

I thought that was it. I thought that I’d have to figure out some way of buying a Galaxy Note 2 and shipping to the US to waterproof it. But it came!!! It’s coming to Malaysia!

Yup, now to wait for the galaxy note 2 and waterproof it. (Yes, I need a 5 inch screen) Although if it’s not that much of an upgrade I might just hunt around for a second-hand galaxy note instead. The 5.3 inch screen is a solid deal.

The major details for the Liquipel coating are that it’s surfacing in August 2012. I’m expecting the end of August. Company name is LQP Asia. Expected price of coating a smartphone is RM188.

I’m so happy right now.
